Imprisoned in a steel cage,
I long to be free,
the bars are of my own making,
stretching as far as I can see,
I believed I was safe here,
but instead I am alone,
I sought  shelter from the pain,
from the fear of the unknown,
Though the bars are worn and cracking,
I still believe that I am bound,
I want someone to save me,
but I am lost and never found,
In plain view for all to see,
every heartache seeping in,
the pain finds its way,
into my self imposed prison,
Calling out but never reaching,
all of the souls that I have lost,
both the dead and the living,
count among the cost.
